Parking Services

If you are planning to have a car on campus for your first year, you are going to want to know where to park and how to obtain the right parking permit.

Western does have a multitude of different parking lots, but they are unfortunately not available to all students. Permits are required for all parking lots on campus with the exception of limited parallel parking available to the public.

Knowing where you are allowed to park without being at risk of obtaining a parking citation is very important.

Thankfully, you have the WWU Parking Services to help guide you for all of your parking needs!

The lovely people at the Parking Services Office are responsible for assigning and issuing parking permits, enforcing parking regulations, the maintenance of parking lots, managing parking pay-stations and metered parking, providing special event parking, and related special use parking on our university's campus.

Here are some crucial information you should know about the PSO:

So, if you are planning to have a car at Western you will need to obtain a parking permit for the lot depending on which dorm you plan to live in for resident parking.

You can either purchase a permit quarterly or for the school year at the Parking Services Office.

Parking Tips & Advice

Obtaining the right parking permit shouldn't be too hard to figure out, and to help you even more we have included some very useful information that can help you avoid paying any fines/fees/tickets and maybe even avoid paying for parking all together!

First off, there are numerous "20 minute" parking spots scattered all around campus. You can almost bet that every parking lot on campus has at least one 20 minute parking spot that you can use for the allotted 20 minutes. Be warned, the lovely people at Parking Services are very productive when it comes to making their rounds to each parking lot to enforce parking regulations and they will not think twice about posting a $20-25 parking citation on your window wipers!

If you DO happen to get a lovely parking citation for whatever reason, you should know that you're VERY FIRST citation ever at WWU can be waived and you don't have to pay for a thing! You do, however, need to go into the PSO and have the citation waived IN PERSON! And don't worry if you forget about the citation and those nasty fees and fines keep accruing on your file, IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TICKET - IT'S STILL FREE! But do know, that following your first citation you should definitely keep track when payment is due otherwise you could rally up a pretty hefty fine on top of the ticket itself!

In the unfortunate circumstance that you do get a parking ticket on campus, to pay for it you can either go into the PSO in person and pay it right there, or you can call the number located on the ticket envelope to pay over the phone.

In the case that you receive a parking ticket and feel it was unjust you can APPEAL the ticket and hope for either a reduction or a waive on the ticket! Appeals occur in person or online at the PSO Citation and Appeals website.

If you are a student who prefers to take classes later on in the day you can avoid paying for a parking permit or metered parking. After 4:30 PM and through 7 AM M-F and all day weekends, the Student Commuter "C" lots and 12A lots become an open parking lot for anyone to utilize. But since most of you are Freshmen, you either have your car up here and have, hopefully, purchased the correct permit for resident parking OR you don't have a car up here at all!

If, on the off chance, you decide to live OFF campus your freshmen year and you decide to obtain a permit for the student commuter C lots, you do also have the opportunity to park in the following lots for free (as long as you have your C lot permit present and visible): 5G, 7G, 11G, 14G, 17G, and 19G.
